THE REAL SMITTYFIVE / JEEP AD
2018
The card was printed on
a stock similar to that of a magazine then torn on one side to seem as though it had been torn out of the magazine. Sent with a handwritten note on a sticky note.
Hidden innuendo's are throughout the front mocking the tv show 'The Real Housewives.'
I generally try to concept an idea that reflects the stage we are in with our boys. Since they are all three teens and forever on their devices, a sarcastic slant in regards to enjoying the outdoors with the Jeep ad very apropo.

THE 'C' CHANGE
2017
Conceptual/Interactive
Notables

'C" CHANGE was in
reference of our move from California to the Carolina's. Many of our friends in CA had never been to the south so it was a good way to describe the lifestyle as well as environmental changes, we'd all experinced.
Stories are sarcastic twists on elements as well as reflect my boys' personalities

Series of Moments
2016

This card had two objectives...
1. Holiday greeting
2. 40th Birthday Invitation
Since it was my 40th, I went with a more Nostalgic and sentimental theme.

THE SMITTY CREWSADES
2015

Smitty Crewsades was a
sarcastic way of acknowledging the fact that my kids play WAY too many video games. The card was the outside of a playstation game box.
Each family member brainstormed their own character and superpower then player cards were designed for each.
I attempted at actually programming a game to go with the card by using gaming software and creating an app. If success is measured by completing the task, then I succeeded at uploading a game to the app store, but the game was AWFUL! If anything, I learned this is definitely one avenue I should rely on experts.

LET YOUR ELECTROLUMINESCENT LIGHT SHINE
2014

Writing these descriptions
backwards I'm starting to note the trend of how and when technology took an impact in our home. This card being the first in the series making fun of the fact that we live by the glow of our devices.
With this card, each family member's device "passion was what drove the decision on what to use as their screen shot.

As a family of soccer
players, this card speaks for itself.

BRING IT
2013

Conceptual/Interactive

Having grown up in
locations with seasons the warmth in So Cal always amazed me at the holidays, so really this card was to boast about the fact that in December my kids were STILL swimming in the pool.
OH THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS...
2012

This was one of my
favorite cards to create with my kids. We ACTUALLY created a music video. Yes it's terrible lip syncing and it was before I'd done a ton of video filming and production, but it was a great adventure and now we have a video that freezes my kids at this innocent age. (cause I can tell teenagers are FAR from innocent)

ROCKIN' CHRISTMAS
2011

Not much explanation
needed on this one. My boys were at the age where I could put any outfit out and they'd wear it so why not dress them all in white button downs and ties! Plus with twins and an older one, they made the perfect peace sign :-)

POLAR EXPRESS
2009

If you've ever known a
boy, between 2 and 6 they seem to be obsessed with trains and with all three enjoying "believing" I went with the Polar Express theme. Here Photoshop was my friend.
This was a few years after my photography business started to take off and I liked to tell clients that my kids goofed off just as much as theirs did (possibly even more) when I was trying to capture them, so as proof, my husband took video while throughout the process and I created a "Making of the Card" Video. It was all the proof I needed to as confirmation.

RELIVE THE MAGIC
2008

This was the first Christmas
that all three of my boys anticipated and believed so it was filled with magic for ALL of us. I wanted to simply state just that.
Santa and his sleigh + pearly metallic stock gave it a whimsical feel.

IT'S A CRAFTY CHRISTMAS
2007
Conceptual/Interactive

A little help from
photoshop and my kids painted Christmas all over the downtown wall. I will admit that the storekeeper was a little nervous about 3 young children with paintbrushes pretending to paint on her wall :-}

THE SANTA REWARDS PROGRAM
2006
Conceptual/Interactive
Notables

This was the first of
our many sarcastic cards. Each and every year the concept reflected the boys stage. Here the magic of Santa was clicking with our oldest and Rewards programs were the "in" marketing promotion.
Added incentive for kids to help out with all the pesky holiday tasks, reward points towards Santa's gifts.

INTRODUCING THE NEW MEMBERS OF THE SMITTY CREW
2005
Conceptual/Interactive
Notables
I'll admit. There's not a
ton of this "so called" conceptual genius I've been raving about here, but it was the first Christmas with all three of our boys and I opted for the "sweet" version. (Just wait til you get to their teen years, things do drastically change)

What began as an excuse to devise fun ways to "advertise"our family at the holidays, turned into conceptual challenge to annually one up myself.
At first impression it may seem an interesting decision to use a series of family holiday cards to flaunt some of my greatest achievements as a photographer/designer.
Contraire mon frere, these cards are a great reflection of the creative diversity from idea development to style, color, font choices etc. within my work.
